What is the difference between a common cathode screen and a common anode display

Nov 18.2019

The outdoor common cathode cold screen launched by Longrun Optoelectronic has attracted much attention since its launch.

At the request of our customers, we compare conventional LED displays (common anode displays) with common cathode cold screens, so that everyone can get a closer look at common cathode cold screens.

What is a common cathode cold screen?

"Common cathode" refers to the common cathode power supply method. The common cathode cold screen uses common cathode lamp beads, and R and GB are powered separately. "Cathode" is the negative electrode, which is opposite to the anode (positive electrode). The current passes through the lamp bead and then to the negative electrode of the IC.

What is a common anode display?

The common anode display current flows from the PCB board to the lamp beads, and the RGB lamp beads are uniformly powered.

What are the characteristics of common cathode cold screen?

The common cathode cooling screen uses separate power supplies for R and GB, that is, the voltage and current are accurately distributed to the red, green and blue lamp beads. The current passes through the lamp beads and then to the negative electrode of the IC. The forward voltage is reduced and the internal resistance is small. The separate power supply scheme effectively reduces power consumption and greatly reduces the heat generated during the operation of the display.

What are the characteristics of the common yang display screen?

Conventional LED displays are generally powered by a common anode. The voltage requirements of red, green and blue lamp beads are different (the voltage requirement of red lamp beads is about 2.5V, and the voltage requirement of blue and green lamp beads is about 3.8V). Common anode display screens are usually given a voltage higher than 3.8V, while the current The input flow from the PCB board to the lamp beads not only increases the forward voltage drop of the circuit, but also causes excessive power loss.

Why is the common-yin cold screen “cold”?

The special common cathode power supply method of the cold screen makes the LED display generate less heat and reduce the temperature rise during operation. Under normal circumstances, in the white balance state and when playing video, the cold screen temperature is about 20°C lower than the conventional outdoor LED display of the same model!

Where does the “save” in saving money with a common cooling screen go?

Separate and precise power supply allows the LED display to reduce part of the power loss and reduce operating costs; at the same time, the working characteristics of low heat and low temperature rise can eliminate the need for cooling equipment such as air conditioners, reducing investment costs.

Advantages of common cathode cooling screen

The common cathode-cooled screen has low temperature rise, uniform screen heat, constant color temperature, no color patches after long-term use, and good screen display effect. Maximize energy consumption while ensuring high brightness and high contrast.

Outdoor common-cathode cold screens have the advantages of low temperature rise, low heat, low power consumption, long life, and good display effects, and are expected to become the new favorite for outdoor display applications.
